Conference report

The International Onco Scientifica Virtual conference 2025, organized by the department of Oncologic Physiotherapy at Krishna College of Physiotherapy, Karad, was held on February 4, 2025. The conference is the part of World Cancer Day, emphasizing the global commitment to cancer awareness and treatment. The theme for this year was “United By Unique”, highlighting the importance of diversity and individuality in cancer care and physiotherapy approaches. The conference aimed to foster academic growth, promote innovative research, and provide a platform for knowledge exchange in the field of oncologic physiotherapy.

Registration details:

The conference witnessed an overwhelming response with a total of 900 registrations for the event. Among these, 40 were international participants representing countries such as the USA, UK, and Canada, while 860 national participants hailed from various states across India, reflecting the wide reach and impact of the conference. For the paper presentation sessions, there were 72 registrations in total, with 34 participants in the junior category, out of which 19 were selected for presentation. In the senior category, 38 participants registered, and 27 were selected to present their work. Additionally, there was one international participant who contributed to the paper presentation sessions, further emphasizing the global engagement of the conference.

The conference commenced with a formal inaugural session (9:00 AM - 9:15 AM), setting the tone for the day and emphasizing the significance of oncologic physiotherapy in contemporary healthcare. This was followed by a series of insightful keynote sessions, scientific discussions, and paper presentations.

  • Keynote Sessions:
    • United By Unique (9:20 AM - 10:00 AM), delivered by Dr. G. Varadharajulu, explored the unique challenges and opportunities within oncologic physiotherapy.
    • Medical Oncology and Timing of Referral to Physiotherapy Department (11:00 AM - 11:30 AM), presented by Dr. Rashmi Gudur, highlighted the critical timing and importance of early referrals to physiotherapy in oncology care.
  • Scientific Sessions:
    • Physiotherapy in Bone Metastases (10:00 AM - 10:45 AM), presented by Dr. Nirmal Kumar, discussed physiotherapy approaches for managing bone metastases.
    • Respiratory Issues in Palliative Care (11:30 AM - 12:15 PM), led by Dr. Sandeep Babbar, elaborated on the role of physiotherapy in managing respiratory complications in palliative care settings.
    • Rehabilitation in Breast Cancer (12:20 PM - 1:00 PM), conducted by Dr. Anuradha Daptardar, covered comprehensive rehabilitation strategies tailored for breast cancer survivors.
    • Rehabilitation in Oral Cancer (1:00 PM - 1:40 PM), presented by Dr. Ajeeta Kulkarni, focused on physiotherapy interventions specific to oral cancer rehabilitation.
  • Paper Presentation Sessions (2:20 PM - 3:50 PM):
    The paper presentations were categorized into junior and senior levels, with participants showcasing their innovative research in oncologic physiotherapy. The sessions were evaluated by esteemed judges, including Dr. Saumi Sinha & Dr. Amrutkuvar Rayjade for senior category and Dr. M. Vijayakumar and Dr. Nikita Pawar, whose objective assessments significantly contributed to maintaining the academic rigor and integrity of the event.
  • Panel Discussion (3:50 PM - 4:30 PM): A dynamic discussion on "Long-Term Consequences and Therapeutic Management of Various Oncology Interventions" provided diverse perspectives from experienced panelists.
