KIMS- THE 4TH NATIONAL PHARMACOVIGILANCE WEEK 2024 CELEBRATION 18th–24th Sept. 2024
The 4th National Pharmacovigilance Week 2024 was celebrated with the theme “Building ADR Reporting Culture for Patient Safety.” The event aimed to foster a robust Adverse Drug Reaction (ADR) reporting culture, ensuring that healthcare professionals and the public recognize the importance of monitoring drug safety. The program aligned with the national objective of enhancing the Pharmacovigilance Programme of India (PvPI) by improving ADR reporting mechanisms.
- OBJECTIVES:
Ø To create awareness about Adverse Drug Reaction (ADR) reporting to safeguard patient safety.
Ø To train healthcare professionals on how to fill out ADR reporting forms.
Ø To build a culture where ADR reporting is considered a routine part of clinical practice.

Ø INAUGURAL SESSION:
The event was inaugurated by Dr. Yugantara Kadam, Dean of KIMS Karad; Dr. Vijay Kanase, Medical Director, Krishna Hospital, Karad; Dr. Vandana M. Throat, Chairman of the Pharmacovigilance Committee and Professor and Head of the Department of Pharmacology; Dr. Anjali R. Shinde, Coordinator and Member Secretary of the Pharmacovigilance Committee, and Professor of the Department of Pharmacology; Dr. Shilpa Patil, Deputy Coordinator of the Pharmacovigilance Committee and Professor of the Department of Critical Care; Dr. Satish Patil, Professor and Head of the Department of Microbiology; Jayant Pawar, Assistant Director of IIE KVV, Karad; Mrs. Shubhangi Shinde, Principal of Krishna College of Pharmacy; and Mrs. Rohini Babar, Chief Nursing Officer and Member of the Pharmacovigilance Committee, who were also present on the dais as esteemed guests.
Dr. Anjali Shinde gave a brief overview of pharmacovigilance and the celebration of the 4th National Pharmacovigilance Week. Dean Dr. Kadam emphasized the importance of ADR reporting in the current context and announced that the department with the highest number of ADR reports until the next NPW would receive a special mention. Dr. Kanase discussed the importance of vigilance in other areas, such as materiovigilance, haemovigilance, and AEFI (Adverse Events Following Immunization). Chief guests also felicitated students for their preparation of educational leaflets and a video on “How to fill out an ADR reporting form.” The inaugural session concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Anjali Shinde.
Ø TRAINING WORKSHOPS ON ADR FORM FILLING:
A key highlight of the program was the workshop focused on training healthcare professionals, students, and hospital staff on how to correctly fill out ADR reporting forms. Pharmacovigilance experts led the session, providing practical demonstrations on completing the forms.
Ø INTERACTIVE SESSIONS:
A series of interactive discussions were organized to engage participants. These discussions covered real-world case scenarios, focusing on the challenges of ADR reporting and how timely reporting can prevent potential harm to patients. The speakers also highlighted the role of regulatory bodies in ensuring the safe use of medicines.

Ø OUTCOME OF THE TRAINING:
A total of 320 participants completed the workshop successfully. Participants were made aware of adverse drug reactions, pharmacovigilance, PvPI, Adverse Drug Reaction Monitoring Centres, and the constituents of the pharmacovigilance committee. ADR reporting forms were circulated among them. Participants were shown an educational video on “How to fill out an ADR reporting form.” Case studies were provided, and they received hands-on experience in form filling. Pre-tests and post-tests were conducted to assess participants’ knowledge, attitudes, and practices. Additionally, a KAP (Knowledge, Attitude, and Practice) questionnaire was distributed to further gauge understanding
