ON FIELD PHYSIOTHERAPY SERVICES FOR SATARA HILL HALF MARATHON 2024

Every year, the city of Satara comes alive with the sound of pounding feet as runners from all corners of the globe gather for the SATARA HILL HALF MARATHON (SHHM). Held in the historic city that once served as the capital of the Maratha Kingdom, this event is the grandest of all community-organized marathons in India.

JBG SATARA HILL HALF MARATHON (JBG SHHM) 13th edition was conducted on 1st Sept 2024 at police ground in Satara, drawing around 8000 participants.

Krishna College of Physiotherapy, Department of Sports Physiotherapy, Karad, provided on-field Physiotherapy services throughout the event. A dedicated team of 45 physiotherapists, including postgraduate students, interns and final-year Bachelor of Physiotherapy (BPT) students, was on hand to ensure the athletes’ well-being.

The team provided vital injury prevention and rehabilitation support, addressing issues from minor strains to more severe sprains. The team was trained under guidance of Dr. Smita Patil Associate Professor and HOD, Department of Sports Physiotherapy for managing and providing immediate on field services.

More than 1000 runners were treated and addressed for issues like muscle cramps, sprains and strains with techniques such as cryotherapy, stretching and some exercise interventions which will be beneficial for the athletes for future injury prevention during their events.

The hard work of the Physios was paid off by the appreciation laid by the athletes and the organising team who felicitated the team for their effortless and dedicated service.

The team was headed by Dr. Chandrakant Patil, Associate Professor of department of Cardiopulmonary Sciences. This teamwork facilitated a comprehensive approach to injury prevention and care, contributing to the smooth operation of the event and the health of the participants.

Krishna College of Physiotherapy’s involvement in the tournament was a resounding success, not only in supporting the athletes but also in providing valuable hands-on experience for the students. This initiative reflects the college’s ongoing commitment to promoting sports and advancing physiotherapy education in India.
